Deepwater Discoveries – In 2003, 57 new deepwater discoveries were announced and added to our database. These have a total of 11,400 MMBOE of reserves. Currently on our database there are 185 deepwater fields slated for development for 2004/08 with a total of 40,000 MMBOE. This compares to 81 for the period 1999/03. The report forecasts capital expenditure of US$57 bn.
Ultra-deep - This is the first major report to focus on the Ultra-deep sector of the oil and gas industry. There are currently 27 Ultra-deep projects slated for 2004/08 on our database, with a total of 5,000 MMBOE. This compares to 15 for the previous five years. The report forecasts an expenditure of over US$10.7bn for this sector.
Prospects & Forecasts - Infield Systems forecasts continued growth in global activity for deepwater developments. The Market Update forecasts US$20.9 bn total expenditure on floating production systems and fixed platform facilities, US$17.7 bn on subsea, and US$18.5 bn on control lines, umbilicals, risers and flowlines. The report includes spend by actual year as well as alternative perspectives with expenditure by order year and year on-stream for each of the key sectors and regions. These alternative views incorporate aspects such as multiple orders for phased installation (such as subsea trees in West Africa) and phased platform construction (splitting FEED, hull, topsides etc.).
Operators – At present there are 24 operators involved in the producing deepwater fields, with a further 16 entering the sector over the next five years. The second report, which will follow the Market Update, will look at the Technologies and Players.
