The Infield Worldwide Offshore
Energy Database
Since 1986 Infield has developed a
database of all offshore fields worldwide from the start of the
offshore industry through today and then forward looking to 2010
and beyond. The Infield Offshore Energy Database is now considered
to be one of the most comprehensive and accurate fields and facilities
databases in the industry.
The earliest project on Infield is Bibi
Eibat which came on stream in 1923 in Azerbaijan. The furthest ahead
are decommissioning projects not expected to proceed for several
decades.
The complete global Offshore Energy Database now comprises 7,123
offshore fields in 127 countries, involving over 700 operators and more than 1,100
participant companies. Infield is updated daily so clients can expect
to be kept informed of new information as and when it happens.
Please contact Infield for the latest project numbers or select from the list below to see details provided for each dataset..
The Methodology to Develop Infield
The initial development of Infield started in
earnest in 1987 and the complete worldwide coverage, excluding the
shallow water Gulf of Mexico was officially announced in 1992 and
additional data sets covering the shallow water projects in the
Gulf of Mexico, decommissioning, field ownership, LNG and GTL technology
have been added since.
The process was to develop the North West European
Continental Shelf and move around the world, leaving the shallow
water Gulf of Mexico to last. The world excluding the shallow water
Gulf of Mexico was completed in the early 1990’s with the
rest in 1996.
The methodology for updating follows a different
process, where new information coming in is given priority, with
a continuous programme of country by country updating. Priorities
are as follows;
• Future Projects > Existing Projects
• Deepwater > Shallow Water
• Fields > Platforms > Subsea > Pipelines > Control
lines > SPMS
• >Shallow water Gulf of Mexico

The “Bottom Up Approach”
Infield has been built up by a bottom up approach. For each field
Infield identifies the reserves, water depths, operator, ownership,
production rates, temperature, pressure, discovery, on stream and
depletion dates.
Then Infield looks at how each field is
developed in terms of platforms or subsea completions, subsea manifolds,
subsea templates, control lines, umbilicals and flowlines whether
flexible or rigid. Then Infield looks at the tie back and support
facilities, whether fixed or floating. Infield then looks at how
the hydrocarbon stream is taken away from the field, whether by
export pipeline or offshore loading.
The Data Network
Over the past 18 years Infield has developed a
network of information resources to build up, populate and update
the Infield Offshore Energy Database. These resources are far ranging
and extensive. The nature by which we develop the Offshore Energy
Database is company confidential, so Infield apologises if this
explanation is general in nature.
Resources
Infield accesses the information resources for
the following types of organisations;
• Oil Companies
• Main Contractors
• Sub Contractors
• Suppliers
• Manufacturers
• Financial Institutions
• Government Agencies
• Trade Associations
• Press
• Client Feedback
The relationship between Infield and the resource
can either be formal or informal. Formally, Infield is supplied
with information directly for the sole purpose of populating the
Offshore Energy Database. For example Infield’s entire Brazilian
data set was supplied by Petrobras. Because of the accuracy, completeness
and simple to use nature of the Offshore Energy Database this relationship
has now reversed and Infield supplies data to directly to key executives
in Petrobras.
The informal resources would be;
• Company Press Releases & Statements
• Personal Contact as part of the research process
• Internet
• News Wires
• Journals, Publications, Maps & the Media
Infield as part of their research and consultancy
business becomes privy to company confidential information. This
is ring fenced within the company and is not available to other
clients and the Offshore Energy Database. Client confidentiality
within Infield is paramount.
