The Offshore Energy Database oil and gas fields data set identifies all economically viable discoveries, worldwide, including both shallow water and deepwater projects, which are currently in production or are being planned or considered for development in the future.
A new discovery is entered on the Offshore Energy Database when it is classified as an economic discovery when looking at the P50 figure of proven plus probable reserves (the estimated recoverable reserves that are calculated to have a 50% chance of being recovered). Infield Systems team of researchers call this the "Infield Threshold".
The fields data set identifies both shallow and deepwater fields globally, those which are currently producing and those that are being planned or considered for development from the current year onwards.
Fields are added at a very early stage of their development process. Where no development scheme has been announced then the field is included, but flagged as not having a development scheme. These are very important fields that have to be considered during the forecasting process as they may be developed during the time frame of the forecast. For further information about the forecasting process please see the OFFPEX Market Modelling and Forecasting System.
