On 12 August 2016, Russia-Vietnam Joint Venture - Vietsovpetro (Vietsovpetro) as owner and PetroVietnam Marine Shipyard (PV Shipyard) as the builder held handover ceremony for the Tam Dao 05 jack up rig after 32 months of construction. Tam Dao 05 is a jack-up rig, designed in accordance with Friede and Goldman’s JU-2000E model. It is expected to have a total 18,000 tonnage when it is built, capable of operating at a depth of 120 meters or 400 ft below water, and will be able to drill at a depth of 9,000 meters, or 30,000 ft. This is the second jack-up rig domestically manufactured by subsidiaries of PetroVietnam. The first was Tam Dao 03 which was put into operation in 2012.

PV Shipyard celebrate keel laying for 'Tam Dao 05'

PV Shipyard and VietSovPetro have announced that the keel laying ceremony for the newbuild Tam Dao 05 jackup rig was successfully carried out on the 25th October 2014. VietSovPetro is the owner of the newbuild jackup, whilst PV Shipyard is the main contractor. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Phan Tu Giang (PV Shipyard’s Managing Director) expressed that upon completion the Tam Dao 05 will be the largest and most state of art jackup ever constructed in Vietnam. The unit is projected to weigh approximately 18,000MT and will be capable of operating in water depths of 400ft.

On 13 Dec 2015, Petrovietnam Marine Shipyard held the launching ceremony for the Tam Dao 05 jackup. The rig is expected to be delivered after 32 month of construction.

Keppel FELS completes US$10 million repair

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), the offshore arm of Keppel FELS Energy & Infrastructure Limited, has completed a US$10 million contract to repair Tam Dao, a jack-up drilling rig from Vietnam-Russian joint venture company, Vietsovpetro. Tam Dao, an MSC CJ 50 design rig, was built by Keppel FELS in 1988. It has since been operating well in Vietnam and giving the owner/operator good commercial returns. The last repair of the rig done by Keppel FELS was in 1992. Said Mr Tong Chong Heong, Executive Director of Keppel FELS, “We are pleased to have taken on this project with our long-time client, Vietsovpetro, with whom we have worked since the late ‘80s when we delivered Tam Dao to them. This project highlights Keppel FELS’ capability in providing value-added jobs like repair in addition to construction and conversion for the offshore market.” Under the contract, Keppel FELS overhauled the rig’s main generators, repaired its blowout preventer (BOP) units and jacking structures. Keppel FELS also replaced some of the rig’s drilling equipment and refurbished its existing derrick. The rig’s electrical, piping, automation and electronic systems were also repaired. Drydock works which include complete painting of the hull have been carried out.

'Cuu Long' jackup enters shipyard for repairs

On the morning of the 28th April 2014, the ‘Cuu Long’ jackup rig was towed into dry dock at the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company Ltd. (DQS) shipyard in Vietnam. The unit which is owned and operated by VietSovPetro has entered the yard to undergo repair work. ‘Cuu Long’ jack-up rig has a length of 60.960 m, width 56.692m, height 6.988m, leg length of 126m and is capable of drilling wells to a maximum depth of 3000m. Estimated time for repairing the ‘Cuu Long’ jackup rig is 135 days with main electrical and automation systems, anti-corrosion painting, hull structure, ballast system, mechanical system, power system, drilling system. The total value of the contract is about 370 billion VND (USD17.2 million). Right after the rig arrived safely in the dock, DQS employees perform ventilation, lighting, installation of scaffolding, scraping fouling, washing with water, preservation of materials and equipment.
